July Review

July was a very busy month at work for me and I haven’t had that much free time to play that many games, let alone make some blog posts on said games. But that being said, I had a wonderful time with the video game titles that I did manage to play.

nazi scum

Wolfenstein: The New Order took me completely by surprise! I don’t play a lot of shooter games in general, but the idea of an alternate history game where you kill Nazis perked my interest. These characters were so diverse and well developed which was very balanced with battle sequences. With every battle, I felt like they mattered and so much was riding on those outcomes. This game also didn’t glorify war and showed the weight of your battles through BJ’s monologues that are littered throughout the game. It was nice to see BJ push himself and realize that all he wanted was rest at the end of the day.  The next game comes out in October and I might have to buy it earlier than later. October cannot come sooner!

bethesda Going along with Wolfenstein, this would be my introduction to Bethesda games and I was very impressed. I have purchased several Bethesda games (Fallout and Dishonored) but I haven’t had time to play them. I am more excited to see what other Bethesda games have to offer after playing Wolfenstein. With my small knowledge of the Fallout games, there is a significant amount of lore and storytelling which is what makes me enjoy games as a whole. Games for me is an art form and if they highlight that within their games, then they’ve made me a loyal fan.

I finally managed to snag a copy of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons and I was really disappointed in it. The animation fit the vibe of a storybook which I enjoyed but I couldn’t get past the controls. You have to control both brothers during stages and I kept missing up to the point that I couldn’t enjoy the story. What I did like were the interactions with minor characters and how each boy reacted in a unique style. There was an underlining of sadness shrouded in every chapter which made me want to root for these two boys but I couldn’t finish the game. Honestly, I think it’s ok to stop playing a game if you don’t like it. I might watch a gameplay to see what I missed, but that doesn’t bother me.

adventure time investigations

Adventure Time Investigations was a fun game where I could visit all the characters from the land of Oo. I use to be obsessed with this show a few years ago and it was nice to interact with those characters made it even more enjoyable. The game itself isn’t that hard, a few puzzles during the five cases that take around 30 minutes to complete each one. It’s also an easy platinum if you’re into that stuff. I wouldn’t necessarily call myself a trophy hunter since I’m not that intense about it, but I’ll go out of my way to snag a couple if need be.

July seemed to be more productive than I originally thought. I’m going to be more productive this month with regular posts and even having some new material. What have you been up to this month? And as always, thank you for being a member of this journey and don’t forget to drop by in the comments!

  1. I completely understand about the Brothers controls, it took me a while to finish it because I’m not the most coordinated person! But watch a video if you can – it’s a really touching game.

      1. The first game is so intriguing. I’ve completed it five times and I’ve got the platinum trophy on PS3 & PS4! Stay in touch and let me know what you think.
        Cheers.
